Curriculum

The Early Years Foundation Stage

Our practice follows the educational requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (2024) (EYFS).

The EYFS identifies seven areas of learning which are all important and interconnected.

The Three Prime Areas of Development

“The three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive”. (EYFS 2024).

The three prime areas are:

Communication and Language

Physical development

Personal, Social and Emotional development

The Four Specific Areas of Development

The four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied are:

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the world

Expressive arts and design

Our Curriculum

We deliver a curriculum that gives the children opportunities to develop and progress in all seven areas of learning. Starting with the three prime areas we plan a curriculum in which children can scaffold their learning and knowledge at their own pace. We tune in to what children know and what sparks their interest. Providing a mix of adult led activities and child led exploration, children learn through hands-on experience, investigation, and creativity, with a strong emphasis on learning through play. We focus on processes rather than outcomes, supporting children to become inquisitive, resilient, and confident learners. Our curriculum develops over the year to enable children to reach their potential and build solid foundations in each area of learning before they move on to the next stage.
