Inclusion
At Acorns, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every family is welcomed and valued, regardless of their background. We embrace our differences and similarities, making a conscious effort to incorporate diverse languages, cultures, and experiences into our daily practices. Over the past year, we’ve had the joy of learning and performing songs in Polish, French, Urdu, Swedish, Ugandan, German, and Japanese. This has been a truly enriching experience, and we loved every moment of it! We invite families to share with us if they speak another language at home and encourage parents to teach us songs and phrases from their cultures.
We proudly celebrate a variety of faiths and festivals each year at Acorns. By creating a culture of celebration and fun through cooking, singing, dancing, and exploring music from around the world, we ensure that Acorns children learn to appreciate and embrace the rich diversity of global cultures.
We also incorporate Makaton signing into our daily routine, which empowers every child to communicate effectively and be understood. The children quickly pick up the signs and thoroughly enjoy using them. Regular singing and signing sessions are held, and signing is integrated consistently throughout the day.
At Acorns, we are dedicated to ensuring that no one is ever discriminated against based on disability, age, race, gender, sex, religious beliefs, or cultural background. Everyone is respected and included in our community.
Equal Opportunities
We pride ourselves on being an extremely inclusive setting. In Acorns we have respect for every child’s individuality, we spend time really getting to know the children in our care. If we feel that your child would benefit from some extra support, for whatever reason, then we will initially discuss any observations with you, as their primary carer, asking for your input and experience of your child. We will work together with you every step of the way to support your child’s needs.
This system of openness and support ensures that all of the children in our care have full access to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, and to specialist support where necessary. We have close links with external support agencies. Please read our ‘Local Offer’ which gives more details about our approach to Special educational needs in Acorns.
We have proven experience in including children with a range of unique additional needs, for example; children with a diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), and children with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties. These children did not just join us, they joined in with the Acorns experience as we worked in partnership with families and other specialists to support their needs and enable them to have a positive learning experience.
